Fix your missing iPhone Apps after the 3.0 upgrade

Many people seem to be experiencing “missing” apps after upgrading their iPhones to the new 3.0 OS version. In many cases it seems that the apps are not “really” missing, they are hiding in other pages. This is how you can fix that problem:

1. On your iPhone select “settings”
2. Select “general”
3. Select “reset”
4. Select “Reset Home Screen Layout”

You may have to “reorganize” your apps after performing these steps.

A reader just notified me that the cause of missing apps may also be due to iPhone 3.0 “restrictions.” Here is how he fixed his problem:

1. Go to Settings -> General -> Restrictions
2. Click on Enable Restrictions.
4. Provide any 4 digit pass code, verify pass code.
5. Disable Restrictions. Provide same pass code.
6. Done.

If you find another reason for the “missing apps” and know the fix, please post it. We’ll get to the bottom of this.

I got the solution for the first problem from the following post. He suggests clicking "Reset All Settings" I sugest trying the "Reset Home Screen Layout" first, it is less drastic.

  1. The instructions you provided actually didn't work for me. However, after doing some more search, I was able to restore the icons/apps by enabling then disabling Restrictions.

Go to Settings -> General -> Restrictions. Click on Enable Restrictions. Provide any 4 digit pass code, verify pass code. Disable Restrictions. Provide same pass code. Done.
